The MSM Leadership Team has created a revised 2020 Commencement plan with the intent of honoring the traditions of Mount St. Mary and acknowledging the implications of COVID-19 on our community. The health and safety of all members of the Mount St. Mary Academy community remains our first priority. All plans moving forward will follow current guidelines issued by Erie County and New York State so that we can celebrate our graduates safely.
Please enjoy a recording of the Class of 2020 Baccalaureate Mass celebrated by Msgr. Francis Weldgen in the MSM Chapel embedded below. The video will also be available on MSM’s YouTube channel for family and friends of our graduates to enjoy and celebrate alongside our school community.
Mount St. Mary Academy also held a Farewell Driving Tour through campus for the Class of 2020 on Sunday, May 31. The senior class was honored as they and their families took a final turn around the Mount St. Mary grounds in their graduation gowns. Graduates had a brief opportunity to leave their cars for a formal portrait in front of the grotto and received gifts and well wishes from the faculty, staff and administration.
This graduating class has earned a reported total of over $15,344,000 in scholarships, with an average of approximately $264,553 per student. These young women will be moving on to local universities, colleges across the country, and one so far as Ireland. Their next steps will prepare them to enter a range of fields including radiology, social work, aerospace engineering, environmental studies, graphic design and education.
The official 89th Commencement Exercises for the Class of 2020 have been postponed until Sunday, August 2 and will be held in the school’s auditorium, barring any continuing public health concerns or local restrictions. More information on the formal event will follow.
