Mount St. Mary Academy’s Virtual Enterprises team won their third straight regional championship last week. The students presented a business plan for their virtual company, Enviroscentals, which sells virtual scents that enhance moods.
The Virtual Enterprises team was formed as part of Mount St. Mary Academy’s Academy Scholars program which focuses on provided students with an understanding of business and work place challenges. Through the Virtual Enterprises program students create a virtual product business and oversee everything from human resources to marketing.
During the 2013-14 school year — our first in the VE program — Mount St. Mary Academy’s team placed first overall in the northeastern United States, placing us among the top 20 teams in the country. Our firm was also the only all-women firm among hundreds competing in New York City. EnviroScentals repeated that feat in 2014-15, ranking first in the northeast and among the top 20 firms in the country.
The program is part of Mount St. Mary Academy’s Academy Honors program, in which students tackle entrepreneurial challenges. Students enroll in Academy Scholars as a regularly scheduled class or through independent study, and take part in a variety of hands-on projects, seminars with guest speakers, and field trip opportunities.
