Five Mount St. Mary Academy seniors signed National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2017-18 collegiate seasons on Tuesday, April 25.
Mary Grace Downey is a three-year Varsity Lacrosse player who alternates between defensive play and midfield. She helped the team earn the 2015 Monsignor Martin championship and led the team to a 2016 play-off finals berth. Additionally, Mary Grace was a member of the Varsity Soccer team in her junior year, contributing to the team’s Monsignor Martin League B Division Playoff Championship title. As a freshman and sophomore, Mary Grace competed in indoor track breaking school records in the 4×200 and 4×400, and competing in the New York State Federation championship meet in 2014 and 2015. She will join the John Carroll University lacrosse team, a Division III program.
Paige Freer is a four-year player for the Thunder Varsity Soccer team where she has helped build the team’s momentum with a career record of 19 goals and 11 assists. Paige led the team to the Monsignor Martin B Playoff championship title in 2015 and a B Division League championship in 2016. This year, she was named team MVP and First Team All-Catholic B-Division. Next year, Paige will be playing soccer at John Fisher College, a Division III school.
Grace Burich has been a pivotal part of the Thunder varsity lacrosse team’s defensive game. In her most recent game against Sacred Heart, Grace recovered seven ground balls, one-third of the team’s recoveries that game. Last season, Grace helped lead the team to earn a playoff runner-up finish. Grace also played with the Varsity Soccer team this year, contributing to the team’s 2016 MML “B” Divison League Championship. Next year, she will join the lacrosse team at Ohio Wesleyan University, a Division III school.
Gabrielle Teoli has been a strong rower with our Varsity Crew team since her freshman year. This year, she rows with the Varsity 2, Varsity 4, and Varsity 8 boats. As a sophomore, Gabrielle and the Varsity 8 boat won the New York State championship. She intends to row with Loyola Maryland, a Division I program.
Emily Trotman is a four-year player for the Thunder Varsity Softball team and held a .484 average last year with five home runs, including two in last year’s playoffs. As the pitcher, Emily has a 0 ERA and has earned All-Catholic First Team honors for the past two years. Emily is also a four-year Varsity Volleyball player, where she has dominated the net with her defensive play earning 60 kills for last season. She joins the Softball team at St. John Fisher College, a Division III school.
“These young women have contributed their skills, spirit, and leadership to Mount St. Mary Academy’s athletic program,” said Dawn Riggie, Mount St. Mary Academy Principal. “We know these young women have the dedication and the talents to rise to the challenge of collegiate athletics.”
