Mount St. Mary Academy Athletics Director Samuel Frank has named Orville Roberts as the school’s head Varsity Soccer Coach. Roberts has coached at soccer programs in Western New York for the past 22 years, including 15 years working with players at the elite level. Roberts’ experience includes six years with Rush Academy (formerly known as Global Premier Soccer), three years at Buffalo Soccer Academy, three years with Empire Soccer Academy, and ten years with the Delaware Soccer Club. He also worked as a soccer coach at Hilbert College.
“I have tremendous confidence in Orville’s ability to work with our student-athletes and help them take their skills to the next level,” Frank said. “Orville understands the culture at Mount St. Mary, and he embraces the tradition of excellence in soccer established at the Mount over many years.”
Roberts says he is eager to join the Mount St. Mary program and has many goals in mind. “I plan to build on Mount St. Mary’s commitment to excellence in athletics and in the classroom,” Roberts explained. “I will work with the team to help them grow as soccer players and see improvements in their skills week to week and challenge them to improve as athletes and as students.”
Roberts believes that hard work and participation are key to the success of the soccer program at Mount St. Mary. “I’ve met our players and they made a great first impression. I was impressed by their commitment to improve, and I look forward to working with them in the off-season and officially once the fall season begins,” Roberts said.
Roberts, a native of Kingston, Jamaica who attended high school in Syracuse, was recruited to play soccer at the State University of New York College at Buffalo, from which he graduated. He and his family currently reside in Cheektowaga.
