The Mount Saint Mary Mock Trial Team advanced to the quarterfinals in the Erie County Bar Association Mock Trial Tournament on Saturday, winning not one, but two trials in a single day. The MSM team defeated St. Joe’s for the second time this season in the morning’s first round match, and then shocked pre-tournament favorite Orchard Park by a margin of only one point in the afternoon’s “sweet sixteen” match.
The wins did not come easy for the Mock Trial team. They had to argue for the defense in their rematch against St. Joe’s in the morning, and then turn around and argue for the prosecution less than one hour later in the afternoon’s upset win over Orchard Park. The Mounties overcame the difficulty and won the match.
Attorneys Hannah Skoney, Victoria Haen, Elise Walsh, and Brianna Kincaid were on the top of their game, stealing the show with their hard hitting questions that left the other side’s witnesses at a loss. The judge and the audience were in awe of witnesses Erin Manth, Emma Murphy, Caitlyn Leong, Mary Elise Brady, Amelia Gilmer, and Lizzie Levy, who were amazing during their direct testimony and did not let the other side lay a glove on them during cross examination.
Thirty schools signed up for the Erie County Bar Association Mock Trial Tournament. This is the second straight year that the MSM Mock Trial Team has made it to the “elite eight.” Next up is a quarterfinal match scheduled for Saturday, March 15th, at UB Law School, against Nichols. Great job girls!
