Thursday in a presentation before students and faculty, the Middle States Validation Team announced that it will recommend to the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools that Mount St. Mary Academy be re-accredited for seven years.
The committee said it was overwhelmed by the school’s commitment to its mission and impressed with the quality of the academic environment. It was pointed out that the students, faculty, trustees and alumnae of Mount St. Mary Academy repeatedly referred to the Mount as a family, rather than just a learning community.
In his presentation, Mr. Italo Baldassarre, chair of the Validation Team, offered the following comments:
“It is clear that a focus on Christ centered values remains your foundation and the resolute commitment to the core beliefs and mission of the school is the mortar that binds each of you together. The mission that drives the work you do is evidently replicated on the website, walls, and in classrooms and was eloquently and repeatedly referred to by your students, staff, and alumnae in every interview. Our team firmly believes that you have created a nurturing and challenging environment that strives to develop the whole person. Your commitment to this mission is a powerful strength. In interviews with students and staff at other schools we have often heard them refer to themselves as a learning community, but at Mount Saint Mary the operative word used by students, faculty, parents, and trustees alike has been family. This family emphasis is demonstrated in your strong sense of tradition, rings and roses, mother to daughter, faculty to student, generation to generation.
“It appears to us that at the Mount, innovation has become the norm. We observed the integration of information technology in just about every academic setting and applaud the use of ipads, cell phones, and other mobile devices in the classroom. These efforts bode well for the continued high level of academic performance displayed by your students.”
The full findings of the committee will be reported in 6-8 weeks. Mr. Baldassarre expressed his thanks to all members of the MSM community for the hospitality he and his colleagues were shown and said they found their experience with us to be rich and rewarding.
