Mount St. Mary Academy has named Leah McDonell as its head Varsity Basketball Coach. Coach McDonell was a stand-out player at Daemen College and brings extensive knowledge and playing experience to the Thunder program.

As a member of the Daemen squad from 2013-2017, Coach McDonell served as captain and received All-Conference honors. She graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High school, where she was a 1st Team All-WNY and 3rd Team All-NYS player and a three-time Athlete of the Year.

“We are thrilled for Leah to join our basketball program,” said Sam Frank, Mount St. Mary Academy’s Director of Athletics. “Her passion for the game, coupled with her experience teaching basketball, make her an ideal person to direct our program.”

“There are a lot of exciting changes happening within the Mount St Mary athletics department, and I am happy to be a part of the program during these times,” said Coach McDonell. “After graduating seven seniors this year, the new coaching staff is eager to prepare the returning girls for the upcoming season.”

Coach McDonell will be leading Mount St. Mary’s annual summer basketball camp for middle school students, set for July 26-29 at the school.
