Mount St. Mary Academy students ended Fine Arts Week on a high note — with a sweep of the annual Darien Lake Music Festival. Gemtones chorus was awarded first place for a women’s chorus, with a score of 97.75. Soloists Rebecca Brandel ’16 and Gabby Naples ’16 received Outstanding Soloist awards.
In the instrumental competitions, the MSM Jazz Ensemble won their 11th straight Grand Championship, receiving a score of 98 in Class AAA. Kristen Gorny ’16, Elizabeth Clift ’17, Catie Fike ’16, Jessica Ratajczak ’16, Hannah Skoney ’16, Kristen Armstrong ’16, Danielle Cunliffe ’16 and Reilly Brouillard ’16 each received Outstanding Jazz Soloist awards.The band also received a Best Saxophone Section award.
The MSM Concert Band received first place with a score of 97 in Class AAA. The school won the Sweepstakes trophy for having the three highest scores out of 50 groups. The school’s string orchestra was awarded second place with a score of 94.5, falling only 3/10th of a point behind first place.
