Dear Class of 2020 and their families,
We have made the difficult decision to postpone our graduation ceremony to Monday evening, August 3rd due to the inclement weather predicted for Sunday afternoon, August 2nd. In following the forecast, we are concerned about high winds, thunderstorms and downpours predicted for Sunday, and given that the ceremony must be outside, we need to make this call. The health and safety of all is a priority.
Our plan for Monday night currently follows the same logistics for what we had laid out for Sunday’s event. We will send a more detailed correspondence on Sunday early evening that outlines specifics for Monday.
As things currently stand: Graduates should plan to arrive on campus by 6:45 pm with A-L guests parking in the front circle. M-Z guests should plan to be in the student parking lot waiting for the second part of the ceremony by 7:30 pm. We are developing an alternative creative plan as well in case Monday evening presents significant weather challenges.
If for some reason, you are now not able to attend the Monday evening commencement, please reach out to Mrs. Spillman directly (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will deliver your roses and diploma to your home with our school’s congratulations or we can make other arrangements as needed. Please let Mrs. Spillman know no later than Sunday at 10:30 am if you cannot attend so we can plan accordingly.
We realize this news is difficult to receive, as any change in such a special occasion is difficult. Thank you for your understanding and patience. We cannot wait to celebrate the Class of 2020.
Mrs. Katherine Spillman
