Five Mount St. Mary Academy seniors signed National Letters of Intent to compete in the 2016-17 collegiate seasons on Thursday, April 28.
Molly Frauenheim, Maureen Frauenheim and Sophie Carroll have been teammates for the past three years, winning many local, regional and international medals in competition. Together they have qualified and competed in multiple appearances at the US Scholastic Nationals Regatta. All three have competed in the Grand Finals at the Canadian National Championship (CSSRA) in St. Catherine’s and at the prestigious 50th Head of Charles Regatta in Boston.
Molly Frauenheim is a Bronze medal winner at the Head of Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia. Molly and Sophie are each back to back New York State Champions. Both joining Division I programs, Molly will row at Colgate University and Sophie will row at Robert Morris University.
Maureen Frauenheim is a New York State Champion at both the club and scholastic level. She is the two-time Captain of the Varsity team. She will be rowing at Loyola University Maryland, a Division I school.
Rachel Joachimi is 4-year varsity runner in all 3 seasons, who excels in short distance and jumping. She holds MSM records in 55 m, 55 m hurdles, 300m, 4x400m relay, sprint medley relay, and high jump. Rachel will compete for Canisius College in Division I track.
Maeve Christ is starting defenseman and co-captain of the MMHSAA ice hockey team, the 2016 Federation Champions. She has 4 goals and 7 assists in 13 games played this season. She will be playing Division III Hockey with Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
“Maureen, Molly, Sophie, Rachel and Maeve have contributed their skills, spirit and leadership to Mount St. Mary Academy’s athletic program,” said Dawn Riggie, Mount St. Mary Academy Principal. “We know all of these girls have the dedication and the talents to rise to the challenge of collegiate athletics.”
Mount St. Mary Academy, founded by the Sisters of St. Mary of Namur in 1927, is an all-girls, Catholic college-preparatory high school located at 3756 Delaware Avenue in Kenmore. Mount St. Mary’s is ranked in the top 5 of all Western New York high schools.
