Leah Gath, a North Tonawanda resident, has been named Mount St. Mary Academy’s Class of 2019 valedictorian, and Sarah Herr of the Town of Tonawanda has been named salutatorian. Leah and Sarah will be honored at Mount St. Mary Academy’s 88th commencement exercises on June 2 in the school’s auditorium.
Leah earned a 100.00 average over her four years at Mount St. Mary and will attend Hofstra University to study biomedical engineering and run NCAA Division I track and field. In her college search process, Leah received a total of $941,888 in scholarship offers.
She has given 470 hours of recorded service work during her high school career, spending much of that time at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and St. John’s Lutheran School, where she attended grade school. Leah has also spent a good deal of service time with Pets Alive WNY, Neurofibromatosis Northeast and the North Tonawanda Library.
Throughout high school, Leah ran cross country as well as indoor and outdoor track. She participated in the Drama Club, Book Club, National Honor Society and several others.
Sarah earned a 99.80 average during her schooling at Mount St. Mary and will attend the University of Dayton where she will study electrical engineering. In her college search process, Herr received a total of $651,920 in scholarship offers.
She has recorded 247 service hours throughout her high school career thus far, spending much of that time serving at St. Christopher Church and Food Shuttle of WNY. Sarah has also spent a good deal of time serving at Elderwood at Tonawanda.
Throughout her time at Mount St. Mary Academy, Sarah has participated in Mount St. Mary Academy’s concert, marching and jazz bands. She was also in the Mathletes Club, National Honor Society and the ice hockey team, to name a few. Outside of school, Sarah is a Girl Scout and participates in the University at Buffalo Advance College Credit Program and the Gifted Math Program.
