Over seventy students jetted off to France and Spain during the winter break with Mount St. Mary Academy’s foreign language club. The students started their weeklong trip in Paris where they visited cultural meccas such as the Musée du Louvre and Versailles.
The trip next took students throughout Provence with stays in Avignon and Nîmes. At the end of their trip, students were able to explore Barcelona with tours of Sagrada Familia and a hands-on learning experience at an art workshop.
Mount St. Mary Academy hosts a European trip once a year for students participating in a foreign language, to provide students an opportunity to practice their language skills and experience the culture of foreign countries.
Next year, the program will branch out to help students explore the Western Hemisphere with a trip to Costa Rica. The trip will focus on how a society’s relationship to its environment can affect its culture. Some highlights will include taking an ecological workshop, a cooking class, going horseback riding, and taking a tour of a coffee plantation. The trip will also include a service project. Students will be collecting school supplies and then delivering them during a visit to a local school.
