Mount St. Mary Academy is pleased to announce that James Pernick, Jr. has been named Athletic Director. Mr. Pernick, whose appointment becomes effective on March 22, 2018, will oversee all athletics staff, programs, facilities, and activities at Mount St. Mary Academy.

Mr. Pernick is a 1986 graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute. From there he went on to play Division I baseball at Niagara University, from which he graduated in 1990. He played AAA Baseball and has had more than 20 years of coaching experience in both softball and baseball at the collegiate, high school, and club levels. Mr. Pernick is a member of the WNY Baseball Hall of Fame.

In addition, Mr. Pernick is a co-owner of All In Sports Complex in Cheektowaga, a baseball and softball training facility which provides private and team instruction.

“I’m so excited to start working at Mount St. Mary,” Mr. Pernick said. “The school has a great tradition of success in athletics, and I really look forward to building on it.”

Mr. Pernick continued by saying how welcome he already feels at the school. “I know so many of the students and their families through softball, and they’ve given me a very warm welcome.”

Mr. Pernick says he wants to continue Mount St. Mary’s focus on academics and athletics and hopes to engage alumnae in new ways.

“We know that Jim brings much to our program, and we are eager for him to make his mark,” said Mount St. Mary Principal Dawn Riggie. “His experience is vast, especially with athletes at the high school level. We believe this will be great for Thunder athletics.”
