It was a clean sweep for Mount St. Mary Academy musicians and vocalists at the recent Darien Lake Music Fest. The school’s Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Choir and String Orchestra won first place in their performance categories.

The Jazz Ensemble placed first for the 14th straight year with a score of 98.55. They were awarded the Grand Champion Award, edging out 12 other groups. Joanna Long ’18 and Annabella Bogart ’20 received Outstanding Jazz Soloist Awards.

“What we have accomplished is an amazing feat,” said John Hathaway, MSM band director. “Jazz Ensemble earned the highest score ever in this year’s competition.”

The MSM Concert Band won first place for the second straight year with a score of 97.45 and String Orchestra placed first with a 95.25 score.

In the high school women’s choir category, the Mount St. Mary Gemtones received first place honors with a score of 99.35 and earned the Outstanding with Distinction Award. Julia Murphy ’18, Amanda Ackley ’19 Angelina Vona ’19 and Ava Lockwood ’20 earned Outstanding Soloist awards.

MSM received the Sweepstakes Award for highest combined score for instrumental and choral performance.
