Members of the Mount St. Mary “Academy Scholars” program recently participated in the Virtual Enterprises International competition in New York City. Students competed in the Youth Business Summit, which included a trade fair with thousands of other student-entrepreneurs from around the world, a business plan competition, and global business challenge. Our students walked away with a gold award for their elevator pitch for their business, Essence.
While in New York, the students had many other great opportunities. They visited NBC News (thanks to alumna Michelle Cumbo ’84!), met and spoke with Project Runway’s Tim Gunn, and networked with a student-business from Austria.

Mount St. Mary honors students have created and now run a dozen small businesses of their own through international programs Virtual Enterprises and Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE). Two Mount St. Mary student-businesses are the defending SAGE-USA champions, and each of those businesses placed fourth in the world at the 2017 SAGE Global competition in Odessa, Ukraine.
